I took a hiatus from etching for the last month. I finished this today. The Virgin’s mouth is a bit fuzzy, but I think I’ll leave it that way. It was arguably the worst day of her life. A sword pierced her heart.

Now I start work on Agony in the Garden. I have a study I began a month ago while sitting in a meeting discussing curriculum. I think I may go with that. In the next week I am going to begin the armature for a Divino Niño sculpture. I got the idea recently to expand Le Suite Gesu toi include small-scale sculptures of the etchings. I spent last weekend at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Alabama. a Poor Clares monastery and a Benedictine monastery a short distance away. It was really wonderful to experience vespers at both monasteries, and High Mass at the Shrine. The acolyte that handles the incense turned out to be a young man I’d known since he was born, and here he was serving at the altar almost 900 miles away. The Shrine is dedicated to Divino Niño, and I did an etching of Him earlier this year, so that’s the first sculpture I’ll do. The rest will come as I get back into sculpture, which I haven’t done for quite a while, but that’s the fun of it. Getting back old chops.
