This is the second of three I bit on Sunday. I can see the path I’ll take with this one, which might inform the other two as well. The upper torso and head is going to be very worked. Lots of layering of bites of varying depths. That will take some time. The rest of the plate is very linear. I didn’t come up with the idea. Durer is the first artist I can find that did it. I put another ground on it tonight and will go after it probably on Wednesday. I did the same with the Carrying of the Cross today and did a lot of drawing on it. Probably etch that one on Wednesday as well. That has a lot of sky in it, and I’m mulling over the idea of a wash in the sky. I know I’m putting either softground or wash ground in the sky, very sparingly, in the Scourging at the Pillar print. It is the farthest along of the three. Just in time, summer vacation comes, so I can start some new plates.
